Romantic Outdoor Des Moines Wedding // Kyle + Julia 8.25.18
I first met Julia about a year and a half ago, and I knew their wedding would be a dream! She shared with me about her and Kyle's love story, how they started dating early on but drifted apart, but made their way back together. From seeing their love during their engagement session to hearing the toasts on their wedding day, it's evident they have and always will belong together. Not only is Julia drop dead gorgeous (can we just stop and admire her beautiful red hair, welcoming smile, and happy eyes?!), she's also SWEET. And on top of that, she also has great attention to detail-- there wasn't anything amiss on Saturday. From the gold print on her veil, to the coordination of the bridesmaids dresses, to the decor at the reception, and every little thing in between, everything was perfect.
The guys day started at Kyle and Julia's house, where the groomsmen and dads spent time hanging out and getting ready. The girls started their preparations early and finished up at Drury Inn & Suites-- everybody was so relaxed and seemed to be enjoying just hanging out. The laid back atmosphere Julia and Kyle both provided from their calm presence had an effect on the preparations for the day. Everybody was so excited for the two of them and open to help out with anything Kyle or Julia needed!
Immediately after getting ready, Kyle made his way to Greenwood Park, super excited to see his soon-to-be wife! Julia followed soon behind. Emotions soared as she tapped him on the shoulder and he turned to take her all in for the first time that day. The beautiful white lace dress fit her so perfectly, and she was glowing in joy for the day. We spent a few minutes taking pictures of the two of them, then bridal party and family photos followed soon behind.
As guests began to arrive at Sylvan Theatre, Kyle and Julia and the bridal party made their way (on golf carts! How fun!) to the shelter up the street. Guests took their seat and enjoyed complimentary champagne and water as they waited patiently for the ceremony to start. After the parents and grandparents were seated, Kyle made his way to the front and the bridal party made their entrance. Julia's parents drove her to the ceremony in their mustang, and as she began walking down the aisle, tears filled Kyle's eyes. Their ceremony was so perfect. Kyle and Julia and their parents wrote letters, and for their unity ceremony they locked these letters in a wine box to be opened on their first anniversary--I love this personal, intentional, idea! After rings and tear-filled hand-written vows were exchanged, Kyle and Julia sealed their marriage with a kiss.
Kyle and Julia took time to dismiss their guests from their seats before being sent off to the mustang with showers of cheers and confetti. The bridal party hopped on a party bus and picked up Kyle and Julia at their home. We all made our way to the Shattering Silence sculpture for a few more photos before driving to Glen Oaks Country Club for their reception.
Just after the grand entrance, Kyle and Julia had their first dance on the back lawn as the sun was beginning to set behind them. Guests made their way inside for cake cutting and toasts, and then one of my favorite parts of the day commenced. Guests were invited onto the veranda for more dances. After the father/daughter and mother/son dance, Kyle and Julia had a surprise for both of their parents-- a special dance in honor of each of their 40th wedding anniversaries! Both sets of parents had set an example of patient, unending love, and Kyle and Julia wanted to thank them. On top of that.... another surprise! Kyle and Julia's brother Lee made plans for Lee to play guitar and for Kyle to sing to Julia, and HOLY MOLY they have talent. I may have cried a little (maybe, I'll never tell!) but so did so many people. After this sweet surprise, things got goofy and the groomsmen all sang Backstreet Boys to Julia, before more dancing and karaoke filled the evening. I love how all the guests were so focused on celebrating with the newlyweds, and the newlyweds were so focused on OTHERS together. The love they have for their guests and for each other was so evident all throughout the day.
Here are all my favorite photos from Kyle and Julia's romantic outdoor wedding-- it was so hard to narrow these down, but I hope they give you all just a glimpse at how wonderful it was!
