Outdoor Jester Park Wedding // Chris + Courtney 10.6.18
Chris and Courtney are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. They booked me as their wedding photographer without meeting me, and that has always made me a weeeee bit nervous, but always pans out well. It’s really important to me that I build a friendship with my clients, because then when the wedding day rolls around, they’re comfortable hanging out with me all day. Courtney actually found me from one of her friends whose wedding I photographed earlier this year! It’s been a crazy awesome year with all these mutual friends booking with me, as I get to see previous brides and grooms as guests, and even see other mutual guests and work with some of the same bridesmaids again! Yay for building even more friendships! :) Chris and Courtney’s engagement session in January this year put all my nerves of working with people I’d never met to rest, they were SOOO in love, and SO dang cute! On top of that, they just are genuinely friendly. Their final consultation felt like spending time with old friends, chatting about our dogs (I could talk about my baby all day!) and just hanging out. I knew their wedding day would be a dream!
Saturday was a bit on the chilly side, but perfect nonetheless. After raining all week, the rain subsided it seemed just for Chris and Courtney! The girls woke up early to head to Bella Salon in Ames to get all dolled up. The guys had a relaxed morning just hanging out at the cabin at Jester Park before getting ready! After getting dressed, Chris read a sweet letter from Courtney— he teared up throughout but at the P.S. at the end he laughed and said “she knows me.” I love that kind of love! When the girls finished getting hair and makeup done, they drove back to another cabin at Jester Park to finish getting ready! Courtney’s sweet mama, sister, and maid of honor helped her get her dress on before Courtney read a letter from Chris. Her reaction was exactly the same.. tearing up throughout but then laughing at the end. Simply meant to be!
With the anticipation driving him a little bit crazy, Chris waited for the first look! As the sound of her shoes tapping on the dock became louder as she walked up behind him, his smile grew wider. She intentionally waited an extra few seconds before tapping his shoulder to turn around, and when he finally did, his smile was just beaming! I love first looks so much. We spent a while taking pictures of the two of them before bridal party pictures— holy moly their bridal party was loads of fun! The girls were absolutely gorgeous, the ring bearers and flower girl were the CUTEST and not scared of the camera at all, and the guys… well, they were guys ;) Everybody joking around kept moods light and minds off the cold!
When we finished up with pictures, it was almost time for the ceremony to start! As music played, the ushers led people to their seats on the back deck of Jester park Lodge, guests waited patiently outside, some with blankets (smart!), and the ceremony commenced. Chris walked parents and grandparents to their seats before standing up front and waiting for her under the arbor (made just for them). Chris’s cousin, the officiant for the ceremony, made his way to the front, then two by two the bridal party walked up the aisle to stand by Chris. Guests stood as Courtney was walked down the aisle by her brothers, and Chris’s face was so full of love! The ceremony was as quick as a quick opening statement, traditional vows and “I do’s,” exchange of rings, and signing of the marriage license. Within 10-15 minutes of walking down the aisle, Chris and Courtney’s new marriage was sealed with a kiss!
After greeting their guests during a receiving line, Chris and Courtney and the bridal party hopped on a limo to drive around and party for a while (including a quick picture break!) before heading back to the lodge. The bridal party made a memorable entrance before Chris and Courtney cut the cake. Dinner was served and sweet toasts were shared, then Chris and Courtney had their first dance together! After their first dance together as husband and wife, Courtney shared a special dance with her grandpa and Chris with his grandma. Then…. AN ICE CREAM BAR! This was so fun— there was tasty ice cream, sprinkle toppings, syrups, and more! Guests danced the night away and Chris and Courtney’s wedding day came to a close. I loved having the chance to spend the day with my new friends!
Check out some of my favorites from their day! xoxo
