Mike + Nicole // 10.21.17
Words cannot express how much I adore this couple! Everything about them is literally perfect. We met WAAAAY back in March for their initial consultation, and I fell in love with their love story. I may have gushed just a little about how obsessed I am with all things love and marriage--they felt the same way and decided they wanted me to be their wedding photographer. I could not have been more thrilled! With their busy schedules, we set a date in June for their engagement session. The engagement session was bliss. Mike was a kicker on the football team at Iowa State University, and we went inside the stadium for pictures before heading to old downtown Ames, and then Ada Hayden Park for sunset photos. I knew from that day onward that their wedding was going to be one of the sweetest, most special weddings of the year! You see, both Mike and Nicole have a heart of gold. They treat each other with the utmost respect, and their love is SO joyful. Their love is the stuff that dreams are made of, the love that others see and instantly want for themselves. It's so true and deep and gentle and sweet.
Their wedding was held at ISU, where both of them attended in their college years. The ladies all had adorable matching robes to wear while getting dolled up. The girls danced goofily together and were SO attentive to Nicole all day long. Nicole was calm and collected. When Mike arrived, he started getting ready in the next room over. Just before the first look, Nicole's mother and bridesmaids helped her put on her dress- everybody was blown away at how beautiful she was! The dress was so perfect for her.
The first look between them melted my heart down to my toes- Mike was SO ecstatic when he saw Nicole, and he couldn't stop hugging and kissing her. (SWEETEST. MOMENT. EVER.) We walked around campus with the bridal party to take pictures and beat the rain, then went inside to take family photos.
The ceremony was beautiful. And a little funny-- there may or may not have had a little "Hawkeyes" humor sprinkled throughout. The vow and ring ceremony was sweet, it was so evident how much Mike and Nicole loved each other. There were so many people who love Mike and Nicole who came to support them on the best day of their life!
The reception was definitely one of the most fun receptions that I've had the honor to photograph. Mike and Nicole worked it out for ISU's band to play as they entered the reception hall for the first time as husband and wife. On top of that...all of ISU's alumni who were in attendance stood and sang the ISU fight song! The energy in the room was amazing. Mike and Nicole put together a slideshow for their guests to enjoy during dinner, and then there heart-warming toasts just before the first dances. On top of all that awesome-ness, Nicole's sister Katie's family had a special surprise for the bride and groom. CY! She paid for ISU's mascot to come to the reception- it was exciting to see Cy dancing with the guests and take pictures with everybody. Seriously, the reception was SO. MUCH. FUN.
As this is my last wedding of the year, it was bittersweet. Bitter because I don't get to hang out with Mike and Nicole anymore, but sweet because I had the chance to witness true, deep, heartfelt love for the final wedding of the year.
Enjoy my favorites from Mike and Nicole's wedding day! <3
